TICC Hi! Street
in 2018, we laid on some exciting activities for all for FREE!
On 7th July there was an entertaining array of international and local artists performing at Grays High Street. A Sing-a-long with the Thurrock Golden Voices who entertained us with some well loved WW1 songs. Dance-a-long with New English Ballet Theatre mass participation dance workshop and The Meridian Society’s Shandong folk opera character celebrating the contribution of the Chinese Labour Corps to The Great War.
The Indonesian Village was one of our highlights.
Laid out under the trees in the north end of the High Street were two gamelan orchestras. Here, school children performed the gamelan music they had learnt in workshops. Visitors participated in the soothing, transcendental activity of Javanese music making, playing and dancing at Gamelan-a-long with Jagat Gamelan!
At the Main Stage near the entrance to Grays Shopping Centre, local singer Angela Clarke performed a special song for the occasion as well as some familiar modern songs which people joined in and sung. Steve Lawes brought out the artistic streak of the crowd as they painted along the High Street. Adding some potent African creative power, Yaram Arts’ Yoruba Masquerade character danced, accompanied by energetic African drumming.
